BIO
Altaf Parvez is a distinguished Bangladeshi journalist, independent researcher, and author whose work focuses on the politics, history, and social dynamics of South and Southeast Asia. He holds a Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Dhaka, where he graduated at the top of his class.
During his student years, Parvez was an active participant in the pro-democracy movements against military rule and served as a student leader within the Chhatra Sangram Parishad — a coalition that played a significant role in Bangladesh’s democratic transition.
His scholarly interests span a broad range of disciplines, including ethno-politics, agricultural economics, labour mobility, Dalit studies, and state theory. Over the course of his career, he has authored approximately 20 books and contributed extensively to leading Bangladeshi publications, including Prothom Alo, The Daily Star, and The Business Standard.
Among his most notable works are Mujib Bahini theke Ganabahini: Itihasher Punarpath (“From Mujib Force to People’s Army: A Re-Reading of History”), Asomapurna Muktijuddho: Colonel Taher o JASAD Raajneeti (“The Unfinished Liberation War”), and Bangladesher Narir Bhumi-Sampad-er Loraai (“Bangladeshi Women’s Struggle for Land Rights”). These works reflect his sustained commitment to critically examining Bangladesh’s political history and its most pressing social questions.
As a columnist and public commentator, Parvez regularly contributes incisive analysis on regional geopolitics, democratic governance, and labour reform to some of Bangladesh’s most widely read outlets.
