Altaf Pervej

BIO

Altaf Parvez is a prominent Bangladeshi journalist, independent researcher, and author, known for his in-depth analyses on South and Southeast Asian politics, history, and social issues. He holds an MA in Philosophy from the University of Dhaka, where he graduated top of his class. During his student years, he was an active participant in anti‐military‐rule movements and served as a student leader in support of the Chhatra Sangram Parishad.

Professionally, Altaf Parvez began as a journalist before transitioning into research and teaching. As an independent scholar, his work spans ethno‐politics, agricultural economics, labor mobility, and Dalit lives in South Asia, with a strong focus on state theory and philosophy. He is the author of around 20 books and numerous articles published in major Bangladeshi outlets such as Prothom Alo, The Daily Star, and Business Standard.  

Notable titles from his bibliography include Mujib Bahini theke Ganabahini: Itihasher Punarpath (“From Mujib Force to People’s Army: A Re‐Reading of History”), Asomapurna Muktijuddho: Colonel Taher o JASAD Raajneeti (“Unfinished Liberation War”), and Bangladesher Nari‑r Bhumi‑Sampad-er Loraai (“Bangladeshi Women’s Struggle Over Land Rights”).

Presently featured as a columnist and commentator in publications like Prothom Alo, The Daily Star, and The Business Standard, Parvez regularly offers incisive commentary on regional geopolitics, democratic movements, and labor reform.
