Lieutenant General (Retd.) Muhammad Mahfuzur Rahman, PhD

BIO

Lt. Gen. Mahfuzur Rahman is a distinguished retired three-star general of the Bangladesh Army. A cadet of Jhenidah Cadet College, he was commissioned in 1981 via the 5th Long Course after graduating from the Bangladesh Military Academy.

Over a 39-year military career, he commanded an infantry battalion, two brigades, and the 11th Infantry Division. He held key leadership positions, including Brigade Major, GSO-1, Director of Military Operations, Adjutant General at Army Headquarters, Commandant of Defence Services Command & Staff College, and the School of Infantry & Tactics.

He also participated in UN peacekeeping missions in Mozambique (UNOMOZ) and Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL). From February 2016 to November 2020, he served as the 14th Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division under the Prime Minister’s Office, overseeing critical operational and administrative functions across Bangladesh’s armed forces 

Dr. Rahman holds an impressive academic record: master’s degrees in Defence Studies, War Studies, and Business Administration; an M.Phil. from Madras University, India; and a PhD from Jahangirnagar University. He is an alumnus of the National Defence College (India), the Royal College of Defence Studies (UK), the Defence Services Command & Staff College, and completed the Armed Forces War Course.

Throughout his service, Lt. Gen. Rahman received high honours, including the Oshamanno Sheba Padak (OSP) and the prestigious Independence Day Award
